The PUBLIC AWARENESS ON SELF-MEDICATION programme was organized by the Department of Pharmacology under the leadership of Dr. K. Chandrakala, Professor and HOD, following instructions from the office of the Director of Medical Education, Dr. DSVL Narasimham on 18th June 2024. Under the guidance of Respected Additional DME/Principal Dr. A. Yedukondala Rao, the event was held at Government Medical College and Government General Hospital, Ongole.

The event commenced with a rally from the entrance of Government Medical College, Ongole, to Government General Hospital, Ongole, with participants chanting slogans against self-medication practices. Dr. K. Chandrakala delivered an introductory speech on the hazards of self-medication practices. Following this, Dr. A. Yedukondala Rao explained in detail the services offered bythe Government in Government General Hospital control the harmful effects of self-medication.

Continuing the programme, Dr. G. Durgadevi, Medical Superintendent (FAC) of Government General Hospital, Ongole, shared a few examples and case scenarios from their daily practice, delivering a heartfelt speech that resonated deeply with the public.

Students from various disciplines, including MBBS, Nursing, and Pharmacy, performed skits and dramas to highlight the PUBLIC AWARENESS ON SELF-MEDICATION theme. In this event, the active participation of people across the Prakasam District made the session more interactive by providing feedback and asking questions about self-medication.
